Dr. Daniel Franken has been at the forefront of promoting semen analysis as a powerful tool in the evaluation of male infertility. He is one of the editors of the WHO manual of evaluation of the sperm (2010) which serves as a benchmark for the right technique of semen analysis world over. He has been passionately involved in training embryologists world over for over 25 years. Dr Daniel Franken is currently the research director of the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of the Free Sate in Bloemfontein, South Africa. As an National Research Foundation rated researcher his research has culminated in the authorship of more than 170 scientific manuscripts, 24 book chapters and edited 2 books, as well as 140 international and 284 national conference presentations. He presented 120 guest lectures. He subsequently received the International Andrology Society’s Service Award in 2001.

The workshop had both didactic lectures, practical demonstrations and hands on training. Techniques such as sperm morphology assessment, DNA fragmentation using Sperm Chromatin Dispersion Assay and Newer techniques such as Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (MACS) were demonstrated. The workshop was spearheaded by Dr Sujatha and attended by embryologists from all Cloudnine fertility units in India.
